Roblox Build is a mobile-first creation tool that turns a text prompt into a basic playable Roblox game inside the main Roblox app. Creators can refine the result, playtest it, share it, publish it, or continue working in Roblox Studio.

Roblox announced Build on July 16, 2026. Select features begin public alpha testing in New Zealand on July 28, 2026, followed by a broader rollout to more creators and regions over the coming months.

July 28 update

July 28 is the first announced alpha date for Build. Roblox has not announced a global launch, a full country list, or final paid-tier pricing. If the Build tab is missing from your app today, that is expected for many accounts because the first test is limited by region, age check, and feature availability.

What can Roblox Build create?

Roblox says Build can handle gameplay mechanics, environments, characters, visual style, sound, and other parts of a basic game. A creator begins by describing an idea in ordinary language. Build generates a playable starting point, which can then be refined through further instructions and testing.

The important word is starting point. Roblox does not claim that every prompt produces a polished, balanced, or commercially successful experience. Generated mechanics can still need testing, clearer objectives, accessibility work, moderation checks, and manual creative decisions.

The announced flow has four stages:

  1. Prompt: Describe the game you want to make.
  2. Refine: Ask for changes to mechanics, environments, characters, style, or sound.
  3. Playtest: Try the generated experience and identify problems.
  4. Share or publish: Send it to friends or publish it after the required checks.

Roblox Build versus Roblox Studio

Build is designed to lower the barrier to making a first playable experience on mobile. Roblox Studio remains the broader desktop development environment for detailed building, scripting, collaboration, testing, and production work.

Roblox Build Roblox Studio
Starts inside the main Roblox app Uses the dedicated Studio application
Designed around conversational prompts Supports detailed editing and development workflows
Produces a basic playable starting point Provides broader control for complex projects
Mobile-first Desktop-focused
Can hand work off to Studio Can continue and expand a Build project

Roblox says the two share a back end, models, and chat history. That allows a creator to begin in Build and continue with Studio’s wider capabilities instead of treating the mobile result as a disconnected file.

Who can use Roblox Build?

Build is not globally available on the first alpha day. Roblox plans to make select features available in public alpha to users in New Zealand beginning July 28, 2026. Access will expand over time as the company tests and improves the product.

During testing, Build will be available to age-checked users 9 and older, although ages and availability may vary by region. Games published through Build must pass Roblox safety checks. Roblox says those games will initially be globally available to age-checked users 16 and older.

If you do not see a Build tab, that does not necessarily indicate an app problem. Your region, account age check, rollout group, app version, or feature availability may not qualify yet. Avoid unofficial APKs, browser extensions, or “early access” downloads claiming to unlock Build outside Roblox.

Is Roblox Build free?

Roblox says a base-level version will be available at no cost to creators, with additional paid options for power users. The announcement does not provide a final feature comparison, price list, or global billing date.

Before paying for any future option, compare what the free tier can generate, how many revisions it allows, whether output can be edited in Studio, and which account or publishing limits apply. Our AI tool comparison guide provides a reusable checklist for evaluating usage limits and lock-in.

What else is Roblox adding?

Roblox also announced agentic tools planned across Build and Studio in the coming months:

  • A playtesting agent intended to surface bugs.
  • An analytics agent that answers questions about a game in ordinary language.
  • An experiment agent that suggests tests around engagement, retention, and monetization.

These tools were announced for future availability. Do not assume that all three are included in the first public alpha or available on every account.

How to prepare for access

You do not need an unofficial download or browser extension. Use the current Roblox app from an official app store, keep it updated, and review the account’s age-check status. When Build reaches your account, it should appear as part of Roblox’s own interface.

Start with a small idea that can be tested quickly. Describe one objective, a simple environment, and a clear player action. After generation, test whether the game explains its goal, responds correctly, and remains playable after changes. AI generation shortens setup; it does not remove the need to test what players will experience.
